hack nights

@ uc davis

for the love of making.

in the midst of the clubs & classes that rule our lives, we rarely step out of our comfort zone. want to build that app you've been thinking about, craft the perfect personal website, or tinker with new hardware?

hack night was made just for that. it's simple:

  • 3 hours of unstructured, unblocked time
  • surrounded by fun & interesting people
  • with dinner + snacks to fuel your ideas

thursday, oct 31 • 6-8pm@ student startup center

hack nights run every week! come hang with us every thursday evening 😁

we have one rule: leave your class assignments or club projects at home. stretch a new part of your brain working on something new!
What can I expect?

hack nights are super chill -- imagine all your friends are going to a coffee shop. some of y'all will work on stuff together, some of y'all will work on stuff alone.

there's no list of projects you have to do, nor anyone that checks in to make sure you're working. selfishly, this is time _on your calendar_ to work on whatever you want.

(ramble incoming) every club, class, and job you'll do will make you want to be a perfectionist -- you'll want to "get it right" the first time around, especially because you're working in a team and people are depending on you. the cool part about hack night is that nobody is depending on you. you can just make whatever you want, without any pressure to make it good. the goal is to just to explore your own intellectual curiosities, and have fun doing it.
What's the structure?

people will come in around 5:50-6ish, and we'll do a quick intro of what hack night is and what it's not (pls don't bring ur ecs 150 homework).

there'll be a quick 5 min activity just to get to know the people ur sitting around and what they're working on.

then we go into an hour long work sesh, where we'll have fun beats playing (send recs pls) and you're heads down on your laptop/dj deck/notepad hacking away. u can talk and share what you're working on with friends too, it's not super strict.

after that, the food arrives and people can eat as 2-3 people to come up and demo what they're working on!

we'll go into another lighter work sesh and see where the night takes us!

Who runs this?

hey, it's me, shrey!
